Pretty Girl Painting

Abigail Gómez is a Latinx visual artist, teaching artist, arts advocate, and the owner and artist at Pretty Girl Painting, a fine art and mural painting business located in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia.  She received a BFA from Virginia Tech, and an MFA in painting from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco CA.  Abigail teaches art classes and workshops through the Independent School of Winchester, Pretty Girl Painting, the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum, Fremont Street Nursery, Arte Libre VA, and she is an adjunct art professor at Shenandoah University.

Abigail’s visual art practice focuses on a series of mixed media works inspired by the artist’s Cuban heritage.  Abigail also facilitates international community mural projects and travel in the US, the Dominican Republic, and in Cuba.

Abigail was appointed by Governor McAuliffe of Virginia to serve as a Commissioner on the Virginia Commission for the Arts, representing the 10th Congressional District.  Abigail is currently the Chair of the VCA, and Chair of the VCA’s IDEA Committee.  Nationally, she

serves as Co-Chair of NASAA’s People of Color Affinity Group, and has recently been selected to serve on NASAA’s board of directors.

Most recently, Abigail founded Arte Libre VA, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization that empowers Latinx, Black, and Youth of Color through equitable access to quality arts education and programming.  Though the global pandemic has created challenges for the nonprofit world, Arte Libre has been able to continue serving the community by creating and distributing over 900 Free ALVA Art Kits for Youth in need who have been impacted by Covid-19.
