Laurie Rufe

Laurie Rufe is Vice President of Creative New Mexico, the sole arts advocacy organization for the state of New Mexico. She chairs the Advocacy Committee for the organization and has served on the volunteer board since May 2020.

Rufe holds a B.A. degree in Art History from Virginia Commonwealth University (1972) and a Certificate from the Museum Management Institute, a museum leadership program supported by the J. Paul Getty Trust, American Federation of Arts, and UC Berkeley (1991).

The retired Executive Director of the Roswell Museum and Art Center, Rufe served as CEO for 13 years and previously as Assistant Director for 10 years. She also held executive positions at the Tucson Museum of Art and Custer County Art Center. Rufe served as President and Vice President of the New Mexico Association of Museums and in 2013 was awarded the Edgar L. Hewett Award for leadership and service to the museum community. She has been a reviewer for the Museum Assessment and Accreditation Programs of the American Alliance of Museums and a grant reviewer and panelist for the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
