About the Member Briefing
For July 2019 Member Briefing, we will hear from Daniela Peres Frias and Josh Jenkins. Daniela and Josh will be giving us a behind the scenes look at Americans for the Arts' new video, CAMMO: An Arts and Health in the Military Story. The Center for American Military Music Opportunities (CAMMO) is a unique music program that is open to active duty service members and veterans. CAMMO has been successfully supporting those recovering from post-traumatic stress disorder and other service connected disabilities for over 8 years.
CAMMO: An Arts and Health in the Military Story is a short documentary that shows how the arts can strengthen the well-being of service members, veterans, and their families.
Christal (an active duty service member), Ron (a veteran) and Thomas (a military kid) find a community-based music program within the military that helps them deal, cope and heal maintaining their wellness while dealing with the demands of military life. Through the ability to express themselves using music while being within a group of people that share a similar life experience, the three of them can maintain their well-being and integrate to their communities.
Member Briefings are our monthly opportunity to talk to you about what’s happening now! Mark your calendars for the third Tuesday of every month at 3pm to stay up-to-date on what’s happening at Americans for the Arts and across the sector. These calls are for you, so please let us know if there’s a topic you’d like to know more about by contacting Cristyn Johnson at cjohnson@artsusa.org.
We firmly believe that our #AFTAmember network is one of our strongest resources, so after our update, we’ll open the floor up to your questions, comments, recommendations, and lessons learned – we hope you’ll take advantage of each other’s expertise!
